Frequently Asked Questions
Here you will find answers to some frequently asked questions. If your question is not answered here please contact @ToriLStiles on TikTok to ask the host directly. Thank you so much!
Can I still attend if I didn’t RSVP?
Yes, you can still attend if you did not RSVP! However RSVPing helps us coordinate where we should meet based on the number of people attending. On occasion I will bring in materials for group participation, so RSVPs help me know how much of things I will need to have on hand. But I will always bring extra just in case! Please, by all means, don’t let the lack of RSVP keep you from joining the fun!
Do I need to be published to participate?
Not at all! We are authors and aspiring authors supporting each other in the journey from beginning to end, That includes whether you’ve simply got an idea, or are fully published, and everything in between. the majority of our attendees are not yet published, working through the drafting or editing phase, including your host!
Not being published doesn’t make you less valuable member and we’d love to have you!
Where do you typically meet?
We typically meet at the Galleria of Mt. Lebanon in the south hills, at the second flor Panera, that being said, this is subject to change. Some gatherings may eventually be held at another venue if unforeseen circumstances demand it. Please refer to the event page information for details per each individual event.
Can I bring a friend?
Yes you can bring a friend! Please have them RSVP as well, or add them to your own so I can keep track of who is attending for supply quantity purposes. Everyone is welcome and we’re excited to have you and your friend join us!
What should I bring?
I recommend bringing a notebook or paper, pen or pencil, and your preferred digital writing device (laptop, tablet, etc.) We have designated writing time at the end of our meetings, so if you’d like to participate, please bring your device. Don’t forget your creative self and a desire to make friends and have fun!
Is there a set schedule?
The goal is to meet every 3rd Saturday of the month, on occasion this will not work for the host, so please refer to the events page to see all upcoming events including, date, time and location as things can change.
What does a meeting typically look like
We usually start with a fun icebreaker, letting everyone get comfortable and talk a little bit about their works After a quick welcome, and introductions we fill out our progress sheets and open the floor for discussing writing topics of all kinds. If you have a question for those in the group who have already published, you can ask away! We are very free flowing and collaborative so we get to have an open conversation without judgement.
We will discuss future meetings and/or events, and any new updates regarding the group, and end with some independent writing time. Every meeting looks a bit different depending on the activities planned, but this is a basic rundown. Expect to make friends, get answers, and have fun!
What other bookish events do you attend together?
We have future plans to attend Author events such as book signings, artist markets, a day out bookstore hopping, reading/writing over drinks, you name it. These events will be held in addition to our regular meeting time/day, not in replacement of it.
When should I RSVP by?
We are very flexible. If possible I request you RSVP by the friday before we meet. This helps me make sure I have enough supplies available for everyone attending. (But if you don’t it’s okay to still attend I have extras!)
What if I RSVP’d but can no longer make it?
Don’t worry! You’re not tied to attending. RSVPs are for a rough head count. You don’t need to cancel or reach out unless you feel inclined to do so. If you’d like to let me know you wont be attending feel free to message me on TikTok @ToriLStiles. Otherwise, we hope you can make it to the next one and are looking forward to seeing you in the future!
Does it cost anything to attend?
Not at all! We are a free author/writing club. In fact, on occasion you may be surprised with a goodie bag to go home with just for fun, but there is no admission fee required to attend out meetings and have fun. However, if we plan something that requires reservations, outside of our typical meeting, for example a bowling day, tickets may be available for such an event for a small fee. Beyond that, our regular writing sessions and most other events will always be free for you to attend and enjoy.
